Once, twice, three times, we are here for you whenever

We are all aware that the next few weeks will be the hardest as we enter the third lockdown. We are open, and we are here to protect you against unnecessary car problems.

Following Boris Johnson’s announcement for a shutdown to be in place until 15 February, the government has NOT introduced an MOT exemption this time. This fact means that your car still needs a valid MOT, and if it expires during the lockdown, the car must pass a test before being driven on the road.

The other most significant difference with this lockdown is the lower temperatures at this time of year. During the last lockdown, we saw an increase in the number of cars needing a new battery. So, with the snow predictions, this is set to be an even greater problem during this lockdown, but you can take preventative measures.

Lockdown car tips from my guys

  • Start the car once or twice a week and let the engine run for at least 15 minutes (stay in your car when you are doing this, and the car must be outside)
  • Remember that a colder engine takes more out of the battery to start – if you can, start your car during the warmer part of the day rather than first thing in the morning
  • Check your battery’s age – most batteries are stamped with date codes and a battery more than five years old may be at risk of failure, especially if the car is only making short or infrequent trips

Looking after you – right up to your drive

We are here for you and open as normal for MOT bookings or advice on battery maintenance, or to arrange a winter health check. For this check, we will report on the health of a vehicle’s battery and other vital factors for winter driving, such as tyre condition, coolant/antifreeze, lights, wiper blades and screen wash.

My guys are all used to the new normal of face masks, safe distancing, and hand sanitising. Let me reassure; we take every precaution not to cross-contaminate or re-contaminate anyone’s vehicle. All equipment is either disposed of or sanitised between other bookings. And, before returning, we will have given your car’s surfaces a sanitising cleanse.

It is a challenge for us all, but we are here to help ensure you can still get around in your car when you need to drive for emergencies. Please be aware when you book, everything will take a little longer, including ordering parts. On a positive note, we have partnered with Castle Taxis, who at a flat cost of £5 will happily drive you home anywhere in Maidenhead after dropping off your car, or visa versa drive you to us if we have your car.

My guys are here to help. Get in touch if you need an MOT, repair, or advice. Call us on 01628 788 880 or book via info@mrtautos.co.uk, message us on Facebook, or find us on NEXTDOOR.

We can take care of the carers

For all NHS staff, nurses, doctors, contract cleaners and other essential keyworkers struggling with their cars, please call MRT on 01628 788880. We will make sure your vehicle is in working order, so you can continue being heroes. As a small business, this is our little way of showing our appreciation for the hard work you continue fighting against this virus.

We hope you all stay safe and well during this incredible time of disruption. Our thoughts go out to those affected by the virus, those caring for sick people, and those who have lost loved ones.

Stay safe, everyone.
